Retaining Wall Cost: A Corten Steel Price Guide
A corten steel retaining wall is priced by the metre and the height, delivered as a kitset you bolt together yourself. No mason, no crane, no ongoing repairs - which is why it usually lands well under a block or sleeper wall once the labour and the ten-year replacement are counted. For design and layout, see retaining wall ideas.
What drives the price
Height - taller walls use more steel and more posts. We build in 75mm steps from 300mm to 1200mm.
Length - priced per lineal metre, so the run length sets the panel count.
Posts and corners - steel posts, corners and capping add to the total.
The ground - a slope, soft soil or the need for drainage changes the base work.
Delivery - kitset panels ship flat, so freight is far less than block or sleeper.
How it compares
Timber sleepers are cheap on day one and need replacing within about a decade. Concrete block needs a footing, a mason and heavy machinery. A corten kitset sits between them on day-one cost and wins on lifetime cost, because the wall is the finish - no render, no paint, no rot.
